Kaylé Brecher: 'This is Life'
CD Release/Birthday Bash
'This is Life' - an intimate, fun journey: a genre bending set from bold vocalist/composer Kaylé Brecher (Kay-La BrecKer) with an exciting group of musicians placed in creatively varied combinations. Intimacy is something that Kaylé has honed over a lifetime of performance, building an uncommon gift for achieving it within the recorded setting as effectively as onstage. “This is one unique artist who brings more meaning to her music than most. Brecher is poetic to the core and not afraid to take chances and challenge your ear with jazz tensions and releases, challenging your senses and bending your ear with each twist and turn. She is here to stay long after just listening”
- H. Allen Williams, JazzTimes
“In all these settings the warmth and life in Kaylé Brecher's voice stands out...a talented and fearless vocalist” - Jerome Wilson, All About Jazz
"Her haunting voice produces goose bumps...elegant and heady vocals" - Hrayr Attarian, All About Jazz
Imaginative, versatile and eclectic, Kaylé began her career as a very young teen, singing blues and standards in the clubs of Greenwich Village. She has performed in settings ranging from traditional jazz through bop, free jazz and experimental music, country through folk, gospel, rock, blues and beyond. Her varied and active career has included concerts, festivals, live radio performances, a TV documentary soundtrack, clubs and other fine venues, studio production work and seven recordings. She is a singer who is at once completely distinctive and an amalgamation of her great musical influences. Hers is a versatile and flexible instrument with wide range, moving from silky and subtle to bold and bluesy; refined to brash and raw. Kaylé's instrumental and compositional approach to singing leads to explorations of mood, texture and style in each tune, which results in exciting variety.
"A serious jazz triple threat with mad skills and the ability to take her creative energy anywhere she wants to go. The real deal."
- Brent Black, Critical Jazz
"Brecher's skills are many and varied, but her greatest strength may be her ability to balance the offbeat with the accessible"
-Dan Bilawsky, All About Jazz
